While the Burlingame, CA population only numbers around 28,000 people, a lot can be discovered about the community by looking at the Burlingame demographics. According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the population grew by approximately 2.3 percent between 2000 and 2010, and Burlingame, CA statistics also report that 52 percent of residents are females while 48 percent are males. About 74 percent of the entire population is older than 25 years. The median age of residents is 40.5 years old; that is actually lower than the median age of residents in all of California, where the median age is 45.6 years old. The racial demographics of Burlingame are as follows.

While much of the population is classified as white, only 50 percent of residents are native Californians. Another 25 percent of residents were born in the United States, while 14 percent are foreign-born, naturalized citizens and 10 percent are foreign-born, non-citizens. Of the foreign-born group, the largest group is from China and other parts of Asia, with other residents hailing from all around the globe, bringing some international culture to the Burlingame community.

Of the 74 percent of the population of Burlingame who are 25 year and older, approximately 94 percent have at least their GED or high school diploma and 61 percent have at least their associate’s degree. A total of 23 percent has a graduate degree, meaning that much of Burlingame is highly educated. Of the other 26 percent of the population, only 4 percent is between the ages of 19 and 24 while 14 percent is between 7 and 18.

Of the part of Burlingame’s population that is old enough to work, 63 percent are gainfully employed. However, many of those that are not employed are not in the labor force and are not counted as unemployed. The biggest field of employment for Burlingame residents is in some type of professional field, as well as in retail/wholesale, education, health, real estate and finance. Those jobs make up 61 percent of the town’s employment industry.

With an abundance of employment opportunities and high education levels, the household types in Burlingame tend to be smaller and family oriented. While 30 percent of residents reside in a single person households, another 53 percent consist of married families, with 30 percent of total residents are married couples without children and 23 percent are married couples with children. Most residents in Burlingame are married, but there also households made up of male and female householders with and without children.

The high quality of life for residents can be seen not only in the type of households that exist within the town, but also in the average incomes of Burlingame households. A whopping 54 percent of households make more than $75,000 a year, and 26 percent of total households make more than $150,000. These high income levels means a high quality of life and the ability for 60 percent of residents to own their own home.
