Burlingame, California to San Francisco day trips are easy. The two cities are about 16 miles apart.; the historical city of San Francisco offers a rich culture, amazing shopping districts, museums, stellar cuisine and some of the nation’s most famous sites. San Francisco day trips from Burlingame are perfect for the entire family. From Angel Island and Alcatraz to Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf—we guarantee that it’s quite impossible to have a shortage of activities to do in San Francisco.

After indulging in a sourdough bowl of clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf, trek up the 284 wooden steps at Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower. Not only will you burn the calories from that clam chowder, but you’ll be pleased with the breathtaking 360° view of the city at the top.

The Grace Cathedral, at 1100 California Street, is the third largest Episcopal cathedral in the United States. The extraordinary craftsmanship behind the gothic-style architecture can keep you here all afternoon.

Pier 39, Lombard Street and Fort Point are all fantastic San Francisco landmarks, but taking the Scenic 49 Mile Drive around San Francisco is your best bet to see it all in a day! You’ll pass by Fisherman’s Wharf, Golden Gate Park, downtown San Francisco, Lombard Street, the San Francisco Mission Church, Dolores Park and Carmel Beach. The Legion of Honor Museum, at 34th Ave and Clement St. in Lincoln Park, features a stunning collection of European art pieces (you can also snag a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge from here).

The Palace of Fine Arts, at 3601 Lyon Street, is an incredible site to see, especially at night. There is an Exploratorium right around the corner and plenty of places to take pictures.

If you want to catch a show, visit the Marrakech Magic Theater on 419 O’Farrell Street. This theater offers comedic and classic magic, performed by Magician Peter Morrison. Drinks, appetizers in an intimate setting with a 75-minute show make this the perfect evening in San Francisco. The Beach Blanket Babylon Show, at 678 Beach Blanket Babylon Boulevard, brings you the “World’s Longest Running Musical Revue,” which has been seen by more than 5.5 million people including the likes of Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II. Cabaret-style, this venue offers you a smart, funny show that is bursting with extravagant costumes, musical performances and plenty of talent.

Oakland is situated directly across the bay from San Francisco. Oakland is only 25 miles northeast of Burlingame, making it a convenient drive to some spectacular spots like the Oakland Museum of California, the Paramount Theatre and Fairyland. The Oakland Museum of California has many exhibits that display actual recreated “environments” as well as art, history and nature. Located on 1000 Oak Street in Oakland, this gem has many interactive displays.
