Dale Buettgenback

1931 – 2014

Dale W. Buettgenback, 82, of Millbrae, CA, passed away on July 5, 2014 after a long illness. He was born in 1931 to William and Alma Buettgenback of Lincoln, NE.

He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. While in the service, he married his sweetheart, Margaret, a union that lasted 62 years.

Dale started his 50+ year career in the commercial printing industry in a high school work-study program. His printing experience expanded into several local newspapers. Later, the hotel industry provided a foundation for a successful print shop that he owned for 30 years.

Dale served 12 years on the Laguna Salada Union School District Board (Pacifica, CA) during its high growth period in the 60’s and early 70’s and an additional 12 years on the Millbrae School District Board. His vast experience made him known for being a leader, taking on multiple assignments, successfully responding to challenges, and keeping the District fiscally prudent. He firmly believed children’s educational needs were a first priority.

He was active in his church and served on its board. He was also a board member of SpiritCare Ministry to Seniors. He was a volunteer for Mended Hearts and the San Mateo County Department of Parks Volunteer Horse Patrol.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Gail; sister, Phyllis Jean Ellsworth; and several nieces and nephews; and is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret; son, Donald; and brother, Gerald.

Dale’s devotion to family and friends was unwavering. He was much loved and will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Burlingame United Methodist Church, 1443 Howard Avenue, Burlingame, CA 94010. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to SpiritCare Ministry to Seniors, 1443 Howard Avenue, Burlingame, CA 94010, or Mission Hospice of San Mateo County, 1670 South Amphlett Blvd, Ste 300, San Mateo, CA 94402. Arrangements have been entrusted to CHAPEL OF THE HIGHLANDS in Millbrae.
