Hammer & Chisel Raises Series B Investment After Launching Award Winning iPad Game Fates Forever

OpenFeint Founder Jason Citron Says His New Company Hammer & Chisel, Backed by Benchmark Capital and Tencent Among Others, Is Thinking Long Term and Access to a Billion Players

BURLINGAME, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 10, 2015) - Today, Hammer & Chisel, the company started by OpenFeint Founder Jason Citron, announced it has closed its Series B funding round from investors Tencent, Benchmark Capital and YouWeb's 9+. Hammer & Chisel is thinking long term and aims to be the first core gaming company to reach one billion players.

Hammer & Chisel's first title, the iPad only Fates Forever, has been critically recognized as a groundbreaking mobile game reimagining the MOBA genre on touch devices. Fates Forever has received awards such as 'Apple's Editor Choice' and 'Best of iPad 2014' as well as praise from Gabe at PennyArcade.com and a perfect review score from TouchArcade.

With over 1,400,000,000 mobile devices in use around the world the number of core gamers coming to the market for the first time is staggering. According to Gartner Research, smartphone adoption continues to soar growing as high as 50% YOY in emerging countries with an expected 1,200,000,000 smartphones to ship in 2015. Many of these people have never played core games and will be looking for new and novel experiences.

"There are an estimated 100,000,000 to 200,000,000 core gamers right now -- growing at a rapid pace. We think there's tremendous opportunity to craft high end, respectful experiences tailored to the mobile play patterns of core gamers," continued Citron. "This investment paves the way for us to bring high end mobile games to emerging markets all around the world, which constitutes a substantial percentage of the future core gaming population."
