Intrinsyc Announces Development Platforms Featuring New High-Performance 64-bit Qualcomm(R) Snapdragon(TM) 810 Ultra HD Processor

Platforms to Accelerate Development of Intelligent Connected Devices and Applications

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov 20, 2014) - Intrinsyc Technologies Corporation (ITC.TO) ("Intrinsyc"), a leading developer of intelligent connected devices, today announced the general availability of new development platforms featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. ("QTI"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. The first processor from QTI with 64-bit computing using ARM A57/A53 CPU cores in two quad clusters, the Snapdragon 810 processor is anticipated to appear in many leading consumer mobile devices in early 2015. New products announced by Intrinsyc include two new Mobile Development Platforms ("MDP"); one in a tablet form factor and the other in a smartphone form factor; and a new DragonBoard™ development kit, which incorporates the production-ready Open-Q™ 8094 System on Module ("SOM").

This next-generation MDP is designed to provide application developers with the most feature rich, performance-enhanced Android™ platform for developing, testing, optimizing and showcasing applications and games. Incorporating the Snapdragon 810 processor, this latest MDP features QTI's Qualcomm Adreno™ 430 GPU, the latest Qualcomm Hexagon™ v56 DSP and other advanced multimedia technologies, including hardware-based Ultra HD 4K H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC) video capture and playback. The MDP is an essential tool for application developers and other industry participants featuring integrated hardware and software, which aids in simplifying and accelerating development efforts. In addition, the MDP provides users the ability to test and optimize applications and devices prior to commercial device deployment.

The Snapdragon 810-based MDP tablet is the first commercially available Android development platform with high-performance DDR4 memory and an Ultra HD 4K display with four times the resolution of conventional HD displays. The smartphone form factor MDP features a 6.2" Quad HD display with an incredible 490 pixels per inch, while the tablet form factor version features a 10.1" Ultra HD 4K (3840 × 2160 resolution) multi-touch display. The MDP is one of the first mobile development platforms to include Qualcomm VIVE™ 2-stream 802.11ac with multi-user MIMO, which makes Wi-Fi® networks more efficient than ever in order to maximize the performance of local connectivity, and integrated support for Bluetooth® 4.1, USB 3.0 and QTI's latest Qualcomm IZat™ location engine for ubiquitous and highly accurate location services.

The MDP also runs the Android 5.0 operating system and powerful pre-installed development and optimization software including the Snapdragon Performance Visualizer and a Premier version of Trepn™ Profiler that displays the power consumption of individual hardware rails. The Snapdragon Performance Visualizer is a suite of software tools designed for system performance monitoring, profiling and debugging. These tools are designed to make it easy to locate and resolve performance bottlenecks, so your applications perform at peak levels.

The DragonBoard Development Kit is a kitted solution that empowers the technology community to integrate and innovate for devices based on the latest Snapdragon processor, as well as provide original equipment manufacturers("OEMs"), developers and engineers with next generation software technology and tools to accelerate development and testing of intelligent connected devices. The DragonBoard Development Kit includes all of the software tools and accessories required to immediately begin development work. It is a full featured Android development platform that provides an ideal starting point for creating high-performance connected devices and applications.

The DragonBoard Development Kit consists of two components; a SOM powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor and a Carrier Board with a complete suite of connectivity interfaces. The new DragonBoard Development Kit Specifications are:

  • Snapdragon 810 processor with 64-bit CPU, Adreno 430 GPU and Hexagon v56 DSP

  • System Memory - 4GB LPDDR4 RAM

  • Storage - 16GB eMMC 5.0 flash

  • Connectivity:

    • Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac

    • Bluetooth 3.0/4.1

    • GNSS (GPS and GLONASS)

  • I/O Interfaces:

    • 2x USB 3.0 + 2x USB 2.0 + 1x USB 2.0 micro-AB

    • HDMI output

    • 1x MIPI dual 4-lane DSI + touch panel

    • 3x MIPI CSI with support for 3D camera configuration

    • 2x SATA

    • PCI Express Slot with support for Gigabit Ethernet card

    • 1 MicroSD card slot

    • 4x Expansion headers for additional features, test, and debug

The Open-Q 8094 SOM found in the DragonBoard development kit is a production-ready embedded computing module and can be purchased separately for commercialization purposes. The Open-Q 8094 SOM couples industry-leading performance with quick deployment times, enabling device makers to realize a fully customized electronics assembly, complete with custom interfaces and form factor without the effort of a ground-up electronics design. Customers can purchase the off-the-shelf Open-Q 8094 SOM and combine it with a carrier board to create a solution functionally identical to one that is fully custom-engineered, with less technical risk, greater flexibility, and faster time to market.

"We are very excited to offer early access to these comprehensive development tools so close to the launch of QTI's 64-bit multicore Snapdragon 810 processor, allowing developers and intelligent connected device makers to accelerate their development to coincide with the commercial availability of this powerful processor," said Chris Ross, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Manufacturing, Intrinsyc. "The MDP is extremely beneficial for any developer looking to create and demonstrate applications running on the latest and most advanced Snapdragon technology available. The DragonBoard is a comprehensive development platform that is a great starting point for companies building high-performance, low-power intelligent connected devices; in areas such as robotics, wearable computing, digital signage, kiosks, medical devices, or any other intelligent connected device requiring best-in-class performance and energy efficiency."

The Snapdragon 810 processor is designed on a 20nm technology node with advanced multimedia features and 64-bit capability, tightly integrated and optimized to enable an exceptional overall user experience with industry-leading power efficiency. Designed to deliver the ultimate connected mobile computing experiences in video, imaging and graphics, the Snapdragon 810 processor supports:

  • Rich native 4K Ultra HD interface and video, along with an upgraded camera suite using gyro-stabilization and 3D noise reduction for producing high quality 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p video at 120 frames per second. The combined 14-bit dual Image Signal Processors ("ISPs") are capable of supporting 1.2GP/s throughput and image sensors up to 55MP.

  • The combined 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A57 CPUs and Cortex-A53 CPUs are designed to enable an improved user experience based on the advanced technology feature set, while implementation of the new ARMv8-A ISA supports improved instruction set efficiency. The Adreno 430 GPU provides support for OpenGL ES 3.1 plus hardware tessellation, geometry shaders and programmable blending. The Adreno 430 GPU also supports a new level of GPU security for secure composition and management of premium video and other multimedia content.

For both the MDP and DragonBoard, users will receive product documentation and access to complimentary tools and software updates, and additional technical support or product development assistance through Intrinsyc's technical support services.
